About the Artist
Anita Beshirs is a mixed-media visual and installation artist residing in San Francisco since 1994. She grew up in Cameroon, West Africa and Oxford, Mississippi before gaining a B.A. in Journalism from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. Primarily self-taught in visual arts, she works in acrylic, pan pastel, charcoal, textiles, assemblage, clay, paper, encaustics, wood burning, and badminton. Her continued interest in visual languages inspired her to create her own symbolic language represented in her good luck art pieces.
A local arts advocate, Anita co-founded More Art Everywhere, a project that curates art shows featuring local artists in local businesses and venues. She also serves as the artist liaison for the Divisadero Art Walk and as a traveling exhibition consultant to San Francisco Arts Commission.
Anita’s painting, “15 Murrays of Fame,” is currently featured in the newly released The Art of Being Bill: Bill Murray and the Many Faces of Awesome (Race Point Publishing, 2018), a collection of portraits of actor Bill Murray. The book can be purchased on Amazon here. Her painting, “Her Favorite Dogs,” is part of a traveling exhibition honoring Frida Kahlo, The World of Frida, visiting multiple museums through 2022. The national tour schedule can be found here.
